VBox is a virtual machine, so it will run any OS in it.

The question will go back to yourself. Which OS that you will use most. If you mainly use Ubuntu in your laptop and XP for your optional, then you have install Ubuntu first.

If you work most with XP, then just install Vbox for Win* version and install Ubuntu in it.

The different when you have dual boot in your hard disk is the speed. It will slowing down your computer performance unless you have good processor and enough memory. Because you will run 2 OS in the same time.

What is I already have windows xp installed on my machine and I need Ubuntu and vbox to be instaled now.
Please correct me if I am wrong:
U need Vbox so that u can run applications that u can not run on windows OS that is installed on the machine. So, u create a virtual environment within w hich u can run some other OS. This eliminates headaches of partitionaing ur hard disk.
Assuming that I am right in my understanding, should I install Ubuntu first and then follow up with Vbox? Again, I already have windows xp on my machine.

Pak Taufan,
Mohon dibahas setting vbox supaya bs full screen.

Instalasi Vbox udah suxes
Instalasi Vbox Guest Addition uda bisa.
Sekarang cara men-setting tampilan supaya bisa full screen.
Tampilannya cuma bisa 640×480 saja. sebesar amplop.
Kalo resolusinya dibesarin sampe 1024, langsung gelap dan kembali ke semula. sepertinya drivernya ga pas.

Saya pake Vbox di Ubuntu Gutsy. Untuk praktek pengenalan linux,pak. Ntar dicoba2 di host berantakan pula.

Sedangkan Guest diinstal linux mint daryna. (pernah juga pake fedora, ubuntu, dan gOS).

ada saran pak?

I got this
VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel, e.g. virtualbox-ose-modules-generic..

gimana biar host interface networking berjalan di ubuntu ??? ketika guest pc saya konfigurasi networknya dengan pilihan host interface. ketika dijalankan guest os tersebut akan muncul error seperti ini :

Failed to initialize Host Interface Networking.
VBox status code: -3100 (VERR_HOSTIF_INIT_FAILED).

I’ve followed your instructions, and everything seemed to be all right, but … there’s always a but …
I’ve got a problem when STARTING a virtual machine:

VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Please install the virtualbox-ose-modules package for your kernel and execute ‘/etc/init.d/vboxdrv start’ as root.
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).

Reviewing the installation output, I’ve found this lines:

A instalar virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.22-14-generic (6) …
* Starting VirtualBox kernel module vboxdrv chown: `:vboxusers’: grupo inválido

* Cannot change owner vboxusers for device /dev/vboxdrv.

Can you help me? I’m new to ubuntu and linux.

Main reason is Not all Win* applications can run on Linux.
And they still have to work with that applications, especially tailor made programs in their office.

Usually this is for newbie in Linux.
