Forex Trading in Ubuntu with Avatrader

If you want to know what is Forex Trading, you can try with AVAFX. The website is available at www.avafx.com. Although the application is for Win*, but you still can run it in Ubuntu with Wine. I’ve tried it and it run smoothly with Wine.

I will not explain how to register an account, here. It’s a standard web register. So, there is no difficulty at all. Before we start, I assume that you have an account in AVAFX (Online Trading Center) already. If not than you can try with ‘Free Practice Account’. It’s a 21-day free practice account. Just click ‘Register Now’ and follow all the instructions.

For the starter you will have US$ 100.000 practice account. When you ready for the real thing, you can begin trading with a minimum US$ 100.

Step 1. Download the program and run it with Wine.

Goto your download directory, click with your Right Mouse Button then select ‘Open with ‘Wine Windows’ Emulator’.

• Click ‘Next’ to continue.
  

• Just use the default directory, so just click ‘Next’.
  

• Click ‘Next’ to continue.
  

• Don’t change anything and click ‘Finish’ to start the program.
  

• Enter your Username and Password. Don’t forget to make sure that your Account type is ‘Demo’ then click ‘OK’.
  

• Avatrader then will download additional modules.
  

• If you use Mozilla, Wine need Mozilla HTML engine named Gecko. Just click ‘Install’ to continue the process. You don’t have to do anything, it’s automatically download and install the program.

• After all process has done, you can start it by double click the icon on your desktop.

• Below is the standard display of ‘Avatrader’.
  

• I don’t like it. So, I modify until it becomes like below.

• On the left is Line chart.

• In the middle is the Current currency.

• On the top right is the ‘Candle Chart‘. You can set how the program update the data. By ticks, minutes, hour etc.

• On the right bottom is your Transaction. If you buy something it will be displayed in this list. The red color indicates your Buying is lower compare to your Selling. If you sell it in this period you will lose for amount displayed in each Net P/L field. For example you can see on Ticket 4556327, you will loose for 63.2 USD is you sell in this.

• If the color is like below, now is your time to make profit. To sell your Forex, just click your mouse pointer on ‘Close’ field. For example, if you want to sell at Ticket 4555786, just click on ‘1.5991‘ field, then enter how much Forex that you want to sell.
