Skype 2 for Linux has a new feature, video cam. A lots of improvement compare to the previous version. If you have built in Chicony Web cam in your laptop (I use Toshiba A205 series) you can use it with Skype 2.
Note:
I assume that you have already a skype member.
Step 1. First you have to download it from http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/linux/beta/.
-
Select your Skype 2 based on what Linux that you use.
-
Since I use Ubuntu in this sample, so just click Ubuntu.
-
Save it on your Hard disk.
Step 2. Installation
If you use old version of Skype, I suggest to remove it first.
Remove your old version (If you have. If not then you can jump to ‘Install New Version’).
taufanlubis@toshiba:~$ sudo apt-get remove skype

- To have a video chat, just call your skype friend, then it will automatically run the webcam.
- I use it with Toshiba A205-S4707, and it works smoothly.
- I can chat with built-in webcam, speaker and mic in my laptop.
