How to burn CD with K3b in Ubuntu Gutsy?

Before I start, I assume that you have installed K3b in your system and it recognizes your CD/DVD writer. And if you don’t, you can read my articles about how to install K3b in here.

Step 1. Click New Project

Enter your empty write-able CD disc into your CD Writer or CD/DVD Writer. Writing Data to a CD (CD burning) is not difficult with K3b. From the main menu, just click ‘New Data CD Project‘.

A new project screen will show up.
On the top left are directories in your computer and on the right is the directory content.
On the below left screen is the project directory. You can change it with another name.
And on the below right is the empty directory. This is the place where you will put all your files.

Step 2. Select and paste the files into project directory.

Now, select any directories or files that you want to copy. In this sample, I will copy all my data from ‘Karate’ directory. I just select the files and drag it into ‘K3b data project’ directory (on the right below).

The status bar with a green color shows the amount of files that you will write into your CD. The 684.6 MB is total files that you will copy, 702 MB is the maximum amount and 17.4MB is the free space that can be used.

To start burning process, just click ‘Burn’ button above ‘K3b data project’ directory.

This is the ‘Data Project’ screen.I recommend to use 12x speed. I think, burning CD with a high speed will affect to your burning quality.

If you want to change the CD volume, click ‘Filesystem’ TAB and change the volume name.To start burning process click ‘Burn’ button.

K3b will start the burning process.

Burning process is on going.

Burning process is done. Click ‘Close’ button to finish the current project.
