Why do I need Internet Explorer in Linux meanwhile I have a more power full and faster browser like Firefox?
The main reason are some sites only can be accessed using Internet Explorer, for examples Bank websites, and, if you are a web designer and you need to test your sites.
IE4Linux is only on run on Windows. So, if you want to run on Linux, you need a simulator like Wine. IE4Linux is free open source. The installation is not difficult.
Step 1. Download the source code.
Open your browser and open www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page. Then click ‘Download’ button at the top right menu.

In this sample, I will show you how to install IE4linux from the source code.As you can see on the screen below, there is a guidance on how to download the source code.

Make sure that you have an internet connection already. Now, open your Linux terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and type
sudo wget http://tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux.latest.tar.gz.
Wait until the downloading process is done.

Step 2. Installation
Before you can install, you have extract the file first.
taufanlubis@toshiba:~$ sudo tar xvzf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz
Go to ies4linux directory.
taufanlubis@toshiba:~$ cd ies4linux-2.99.0.1
Run the installation program.
taufanlubis@toshiba:~/ies4linux-2.99.0.1$ sudo ./ies4linux

The warning below occurs because I installed the program using ‘sudo’ command which is not necessary. You don’t have to be a ‘root’.

So, I do it again but now as a normal user.
taufanlubis@toshiba:~/ies4linux-2.99.0.1$ ./ies4linux

Installation is running. There are few options that you have to choose then click ‘OK’ button.

Installation process is done. Click ‘Close’ button to close it.

Now you can try to access web sites that only run with Internet Explorer.
