It’s strategic game. In this game you will not find any shooting or destroying any space ships. It’s just text based.
But, I think the game is cool. You have to plan how to attack the enemy, protect your own planet and beware of the enemy invasion to other planets.
For the beginning you will have 10 space ships. Every time you end your turn, your space ship will increase based on the production capacity (usually 10, but depend on the planet). You are in planet A and your enemy in planet B.
The keys to win the war are:
-
Always monitor the number of the enemy space ships.
-
Don’t send lots of your space ship at the beginning of the game.
-
Always attack the planet B with 2 space ships.
-
You have to attack the nearest planet to own it. If you own a planet, you will have their space ship industry to support your space ships army.
-
When you own a planet, don’t use their space ship directly. Wait until their space ships number is bigger than your enemy. Otherwise your enemy may take it back.
-
The more planets you own the easier you can defeat your enemy.

How to play?
From Ubuntu Terminal screen (Applications > Accessories > Terminal), type: konquest.
-
Enter how many ‘turn’ that you want to play. I usually put 40 and increase to more number if it’s not enough.
-
Click your planet, click your planet destination, enter number of space ships that you want to send and click ‘End Turn’.
-
The message is your own a planet.
-
If you win the game, you will have a message like below
-
and a statistic of the game.
is this game available for windows??

OH MY GOSH!!…..
This Plays EXACTLY like a game called GALACTIC EMPIRES.
GE was an APPLE DOS game made back in the 70s. Screens were green on green so there was no graphics, no color, input by key with a little sound effects and some basic shooting indication on screen that was text based.
As Technology moved on, computers would get color screens. I had an IBM PC and found that someone spent months converting GALACTIC EMPIRES to IBM DOS, it still was text bassed but now had colors to indicate the planets owners and a few other changes. It was still DOS based but playing it was a blast with a group of people. I think you could play a max of 15 persons, had the ability to move stars around or randomize the screen for a better star field to play in. The computer always owned all but your home planets and his planets could be barren of ships or have a large number of ships waiting for you to attack them.
This dos version is still around but I think the latest Win Op System you can play on is XP. I am unsure if Win7 still allows dos type play but you may be able to to run Basica.com and load GE and run it.
The article explanation of the game is spot on and it was a lot of fun. I downloaded Konquest and found it to be exactly like the old dos game. Lots of fun played against the computer or friends…
Glad to have found this again….
great explanation. rediscovered this on new linux install after over 10yrs. so simple, addictive. on mint 20, i can’t read the planet tags (ships, production, etc)…WAY too light. haven’t figured it out yet, but i’ve only just begun.
