Kiba dock for Linux is almost the same with Genie Dock in Mac. It provide a good icons tool bar. Combination Kiba dock, Mac4Linux theme and compiz create a fantastic desktop for your laptop.
Note:
Try for your own risk.
Sorry to say, because it may not working with your machine and it may crash your system based on few comments that I got. All steps that I mention below are standard installation from Kiba dock website.
Step 1. You have add the repository link into your sources list.
It’s ok if you are using Gutsy not Feisty, you can still use this repository.

Are you sure this will work on Debian Lenny sid2?Because it is the same packaging π
Thanks
Captain-Jean-Luc Picard
Probably yes. I’ve never used Debian before.
That looks pretty sweet but I wonder how much of a drag it’s going to be on an older machine?
I have a 1GBz PIII with a measly 256MB RAM (133MHz).
Better not, I think. It will slow down the speed.
I suppose you should use Debian before & yes a slower computer will slow down Kiba Dock…
This tutorial is awesome!
I finally have my first dock, and it’s all thanks to you!
keep up the good work man!
I think it is almost same with the AWN….and I already use it. Do you know which one is better?
Win up to $5,000 in gifts from Overstock.com
This is weird, I had everything set up and it was working, but i went in to change some settings like font color and launchers and the dock crashed on me. Now any time I try to open Kiba, all it does is flash some random boxes all over the lcd like it’s trying to construct something, but they quickly stop and Kiba never launches. Have any ideas on what it might be?
Every thing runs well in my laptop until now. I never get this problem.
Have to you tried to re-install it again?
Yeah… I tried again on a HP desktop… It still works π
Thank you so much!
Hi,
I got as far as
sudo apt-get install kiba-dock
and I get this:
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
E: Couldn’t find package kiba-dock
I did get the repositories and key set up okay.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
zoo@shimmer:~$ sudo apt-get install kiba-dock

I too can’t go any further!!!!
help plz!!!
Hey, guys!
I’m a lil fuzzy about step 3 π
What do I actually type in Terminal?
Sorry, I’m a newbie, please help!
Thanks
You just copy the whole link:
wget http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb/DD800CD9.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add – β08:47:09β http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb/DD800CD9.gpg => `-β
and paste in your terminal using: ‘Shift+INS’
then press enter.
Sorry, for late reply.
this is b.s.
i have followed these steps and installed it on gutsy, everything worked fine until i have installed the updates, you know that little pop-up says there are new updates for your machine. Compiz crashed, kiba crashed, all my settings are gone. You better know what you are posting before misleading people.
read this if you dont want to screw your pc
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=616110
All steps that I mentioned above are standard installation from Kiba dock website.
@zadig: yea guess what? i tried that FIRST and it screwed up my computer. if you want to fix compiz, etc, just go into synaptic and uninstall compiz, then remove the repository and reinstall compiz again. and please try to look into things in the future before calling them bs. it just makes you look dumb. also, this man isnt being misleading. you just didnt know that trevino’s version of compiz would break yours. again, calling taufanlubis misleading just maked you look like an a**hole.
I use it and working fine with me. I use together with compiz and no problem at all. That’s why I wrote this article.
And terribly sorry for you all, if I have made you in a big problem.
I would be careful following these instructions. The repository listed is for feisty, not gutsy. While kiba-dock from from the feisty repository is binary compatible with gutsy, installing other applications from these repositories might cause breakage in gutsy applications.
It is the authors responsibility to insure that this doesn’t cause breakage for users installing it. I would highly recommend that in the author include instructions that users remove the repository immediately after installing kiba-dock, and emphasize that users not run “full updates” while the repository is active. The repository is old, and unmaintained.
From the comments I read, some users here have changed some settings and kiba-dock has started to act up for them. If this happens to you just exit kiba-dock, delete the hidden .kiba-dock folder from your home directory, re-launch kiba-dock. It will be back to “stock factory settings”.
rm -fr ~/.kiba-dock
kiba-dock has never been released in a stable version, only through developmental snapshots. Expect some quirkiness with it.
If you want to try the newest version you have download the source from svn, and compile it yourself :(.
cool got it to work i had not gotten it to work before so i was using AWN insted
Works perfect on Linux Mint!
wget http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb/DD800CD9.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add – β08:47:09β http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb/DD800CD9.gpg => `-β
The above wget does not work for me as after pasting this I get a “grub-like” command prompt.
Excellent! It works a dream.
I’ll have to remove the repositories as said above, methinks…
Are there no up-to-date Gutsy repositories? I noticed that as well.
Very nice!!
I tried this, and it just crashes when i try to open it.
The dock, or the settings. It just takes up resources and nothing happens.
Isso estΓ‘ tΓ£o fΓ‘cil que atΓ© eu que nΓ£o sei inglΓͺs instalei aqui!
VALEU!!!
