Using scanner in Gutsy is much easier compare to Feisty. XSane program is included in the Gutsy package, so you don’t have to download the program. When I used Xsane in Feisty, the program recognized my scanner, but it could not run the scanner.
My scanner is CanoScan LiDE 20 (from Canon). The CD package is only available for Win* and Macintosh. When I use with Xsane in Ubuntu Gutsy, it is recognized as CanoScan 1240U/flatbed scanner.
Before I start, I assume that:
-
You use Ubuntu Gutsy
-
Xsane has installed already.
How to use it?
Step1. Plug in the USB Cable Scanner to your PC.
Step2. Run Xsane.
Xsane will search your scanner device.
The detected device will be displayed on the screen.
Select your scanner device name and click OK.
If you are success, you will have the same screen like below.
Step3. Scan your picture.
-
Open the scanner cover lid, put picture that you want to scan.
-
100 is your scan resolution.
-
Setting 735*120*48 will create 2.1MB file size.
-
The higher you set the resolution the bigger file size you will have.
-
When I tried to scan with 1600, I have 500MB file for the picture file size.
-
Click ‘Acquire Preview’ to preview the picture.
-
Re-select your scanning area.
-
Click scan to start.
-
The scanning process will start and the time will depend on file size.
-
Click Green Disk icon (at the top left) to save the result.
Great Info. I will add this blog to my bookmarks.
